Five Fun Harp Things to Do This Weekend

Harp playing shouldn’t be all about the practice. Sometimes harp playing should just be fun. Here are 5 fun harp things to do this weekend. C

hoose your favorite and enjoy some harp happiness this weekend!

  1. Polish your harp. I like to keep my harp clean with regular dusting and occasionally a damp cloth, but once a year or so, I enjoy “detailing” my harp, cleaning all the nooks and crannies and giving it polish all over. Here’s a link to a YouTube video on harp cleaning from harp regulator Steve Moss.
  2. Play through the first book of harp pieces you studied when you were just starting. It’s fun to revisit these pieces and to read the notes your teacher wrote on them. It’s even more fun to realize how much you’ve earned since then!
  3. Share a harp video you love with a friend. This video is one of my favorites. I always love Harpo, and here he plays Liszt’s Second Hungarian Rhapsody with his own jazz twist.

  1. Decorate your lesson notebook or your music folder or your tuning key. If you’re the type who loves to give your things a personal touch, why not consider personalizing some of the things you use most? Just be sure to ask permission first!
  2. Play a “pop up” concert. You don’t need lots of time or preparation for this. Just choose your three favorite pieces to play and find a few friends or family members to play for. Remember to make it fun for your listeners too!
